Halpert, Weston, Wuori & Sawusch, P.C.’s Continued Support of Ann Arbor Firefighter’s Charities
On August 3, 2009, the Ann Arbor Firefighter’s Charities put on its 21st Annual Golf Outing at Reddeman Farms Golf Club in Chelsea, Michigan. The lawyers at Halpert, Weston, Wuori & Sawusch, P.C. have been an active supporter of this outing to benefit the University of Michigan Trauma Burn Center from the beginning. In large part the outing began because of a tragedy involving flammable vapor ignition hazards associated with floor-mounted gas-fired water heaters. We successfully handled the product liability case on behalf of a severely burned young boy who was burned when gasoline vapors were ignited by the pilot light of a water heater. As a result of these types of cases around the country, but which were litigated for over twenty five years against many different defendants, there are now water heaters that are sold that will prevent many of these types of flammable vapor ignitions from occurring and causing significant damage.
See http://www.nachi.org/blog/2009/08/flammable-vapor-ignition-resistant-fvir-water-heater/. There are many water heater manufacturers now that manufacture water heaters that address the flammable vapor ignition hazard and comply with the new standards.
