Traumatic Brain Injury Practice
Effective advocacy requires knowledge, preparation, tenacity and passion. Many law firms seek traumatic brain injury “cases”. There are no professional rules in Michigan that require special training, study or experience be possessed before a lawyer can call him or herself a neuro lawyer or represent a person who has survived a traumatic brain injury. As a result, traumatic brain injury survivors and their families too often entrust their future to lawyers who simply do not have the knowledge or experience to provide the outcome these people need and deserve.
At Halpert, Weston, Wuori & Sawusch, we have dedicated ourselves to understanding the special needs of traumatic brain injury survivors. We have committed the time necessary to understand and learn about the continuing evolution of the care of traumatic brain injury. Many different medical and professional fields combine to form a team treatment approach for the diagnosis and rehabilitation of persons who live with traumatic brain injury.
These include neurology, neuropsychology, neuropsychiatry, psychology, physiatry, internal medicine, radiology, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and other professionals. We understand the very special and different diagnostic and treatment lexicon (or language and terminology) used by these professionals to diagnose, assess, treat and rehabilitate. We have studied the test batteries used, and understand what they can measure and what they mean.
At Halpert, Weston, Wuori & Sawusch, we understand the critical importance of the treatment team of these professionals; how they need to interact and communicate between each other and the traumatic brain injury survivor and his/her family. We become involved with, consult and communicate as a facilitative adjunct to the treatment team and the survivor and family members. Living with what has been called the “invisible injury” and the cognitive, psychological, social and economic upheavals is overwhelming and confusing. Our practice is to work with the treatment team toward not only financial, but emotional recovery for our clients.
Through our 25 years of passionate commitment to the needs of traumatic brain injury survivors, we have earned a reputation for excellence, knowledge, preparation, and as tenacious advocates for brain injury survivors. The successful results we have obtained for our clients, while taking care of them as people, have earned the firm’s reputation as Leaders In Law.
