Civil Rights Claims
Halpert Weston & Sawusch, P.C. has experience in investigating and pursuing civil rights claims, including claims such as false arrest, false imprisonment, violations of constitutional rights, police brutality, wrongful convictions, and other similar claims. Currently, the firm is involved in a high-profile case involving the wrongful conviction of Claude McCollum in Lansing, Michigan in which he was arrested, charged, and convicted of the murder of a college professor—a crime that he did not commit. Claude was seen on a videotape in another building separate from which the murder took place; he was visible on this videotape for hours and the police knew about it but buried the evidence and continued with the prosecution.
